Hello Shabbir,
I’m now 21 years, just entering to my job (software). As early bird catches the fire, I wish to start investment and insurance plans from this age. I’m not expecting short-term gains but I need a long-term advantage. I wish to invest in Mutual Funds and I also like to start an ULIP. Please suggest me which Mutual Funds are better in long-term prospective and also please throw some light on Unit Linked Insurance plan (whether is it good or bad). Thanks for your help.

- Kiran.

Hi Shabbir,

Thanks for the response, I have read the article and it is very good. But I would like to know something about an ULIP. In advertisements, companies are saying that we will get Maximum NAV (recorded over the years on daily basis) at the time of maturity. So, please throw some light over ULIP and it’s advantages and disadvantages. I really thank you very very much for helping beginners like us…

Kiran, That is a marketing glitch which looks attractive. Consider FD. Will you ever get a return less than previous day. This is something similar where you get return close to guaranteed returns.

Hi Shabbir

I am new to investing and have been following your site frequently over past 1 month and been learning a lot.

I had some Rs. 85000/- invested in Franklin Templeton Tax shield under dividend payout option (more than 3 years). I have changed it to Growth now. However I would like to switch the available units to Franklin Infotech growth fund. what is your advise on this?
