I am sure you have heard and read a lot about Budget 2011 and so I am not going to keep this very very short. Three best things which can really benefits an equity market common man are
- One more year before New Direct Tax Code Hits Badly to Mutual Fund Investors
- Tax exemption slab raised from 1,60,000 to 1,80,000
- Infrastructure Tax saving bond investment extended for one more year
What is the best thing you liked from Budget 2011?
It is almost impossible to satisfy billions of people’s expectations with one single budget and so let us see the positive outcome.

It is pretty much a non-event for me because it does not deal with anything that can impact an equity investor to a very large extent.

True fresh inflow of funds will soon dry up in the existing ELSS funds; with their tax benefit now gone!!! Perhaps no way out for the exisiting investors other than wait for the three year lock in and than redeem!!!
In view of the recent budget and opening of the M.F. sector to foreign investors; your experienced advise on the TOP 5 INVESTIBLE M.F. for 1 to 3 years is solicited.Thanks.
Shabbir Bhimani says
I am always fan of midcap funds but I prefer you do your work using the methods I told in my ebook to find funds for you.
Ajay Mehra says
Tax benefits on ELSS will cease to exist, once DTC is enforced.
Does this sound the death knell od ELSS; as a means for investment and tax saving finally?
One is left with no option other than, redemption after the three year period, and thereafter avoid any further investments in ELSS funda at all.
Kindly advise on SIP for best FIVE OPEN ENDED mutual funds for 1 to 3 years investment horizon.Thanks.
Shabbir Bhimani says
It is not about remain invested or not because ELSS funds will exist but probably no new money will flow into them.

One more point which i liked most is exemption from tidius process of filing returns to the salaried class if they don;t have other sources of income. what do you say ?
Shabbir Bhimani says
Yes that is very good point but everyone has other sources of income especially income from interests in bank account.
BTW I saw Salman’s post on problogger.
khalid says
Hi Shabbir,
